Illustration Quiz!

Published Categorized as Books

I have been very earnest for a few posts and might have earnestness fatigue. This kind of fatigue is apparent from the look on my face: eyes staring into the middle distance, a slightly drooping mouth, and – if ears can look closed – they’re doing that!

Consequently, I thought I would lighten things up – for a post at least – with a simple quiz using some illustrations from my picture books. Yes it could be used with children – but there’s a small chance you’ll find a teeny-weeny bit of challenge as a grown-up too.

All illustrations are by the delightful Sarah Jennings and from the Let’s Talk picture book series for young children.

1) Match the expression with the feeling from the choices given below.

confused     happy     scared      annoyed     shocked

2) What is this child doing?
a) Catastrophising (assuming that everything that could go wrong will go wrong)?
b) Ruminating (letting unhelpful thoughts go round and round)?
c) Anticipating with dread (being fearful of what might happen in the future)?

3) Which set of thoughts goes with this picture?

4) In response to the question: ‘What is a friend?’ match the following answers to their illustration.

A friend is someone who:
a) … likes us just the way we are.
b) … often makes us feel good.
c) … enjoys talking to us.
d) … gives us a helping hand when we need it.

5) Match each illustrated situation with how someone is probably feeling.

  • frustrated
  • disappointed
  • excited

6) When checking that children understand what consent is, match these ‘checks’ to their illustration.
a) You’ve no doubt that it’s something you’re happy to do.
b) You understand as much as you can about what you’re saying ‘yes’ to.
c) You’re not just saying ‘yes’ because someone else is happy to do it.

7) Which relative are they talking about?

8) Which unhelpful behaviour is being rumbled here?

9) Simply match the emotion with its most likely expression.

10) Which pairs of pictures go together to illustrate pairs of opposites traits in personality. What do you think those traits are?

11) Which of these do you think are best-fit suggestions for what to do when you’re feeling:
– Bored
– Excited
– Grumpy
– Sad

12) Which of these pictures illustrates someone feeling each of the following emotions?

  • Surprised
  • Proud
  • Confused
  • Guilty

Surprised is my favourite. You’d have to read the book to find out why she’s looking quite so surprised! That’s my cliff-hanger 😉

You’ll have to message me if you need answers or have any questions!
